Available in a limited batch, this Lapsang Souchong (Zhengshan Xiaozhong 正山小種) red/black tea is from Wuyi Star Tea who visited Teance in 2025. While many people associate Lapsang Souchong with the thick and heavily smoked tea that became popularized during the importation of tea to the British several centuries ago, this tea is smokeless, allowing the fruity, creamy sweetness and maltiness to shine. Like other Wuyi teas, this Lapsang Souchong has a clean and mineral finish.
Produced in small batches for a delicate, carefully-made tea, this Lapsang Souchong fills in the gaps in our selection of Chinese red/black teas as the only one from Fujian. Our other red/black teas from China are from Yunnan (Yunnan Gold) and Guangdong (Lichee Red / Rose Lichee Red). Fujian, the most-southeast province of China, is home to our Wuyi Big Red Robe (Da Hong Pao) and 2016 Old Grove Shuixian oolong teas, and is well-known as one of the most prominent tea-making regions in the country.
In 2025 had the pleasure of inviting Wuyi Star to host a tea tasting at our tea shop, inspiring us to offer their Lapsang Souchong to our Teance community. We hope you enjoy the warmth and depth of flavor in this tea!
Each box contains four individually packaged portions, with 5 grams of tea in each pack.
