Ruby Tea is grown in both the Ali Shan and Sun Moon Lake regions of Taiwan. Our Ruby 18 is from Sun Moon Lake, grown at the 900 meter elevation. Ruby 18 is a modern Taiwanese invention, with the cultivar being a cross between indigenous Taiwanese tea bushes and Assam varietal bushes. It was bred by a member of the Taiwan Tea Reform Institute in 1999.
Our Ruby 18 is produced by the Wu Family, now in the 4th generation of tea farmers. The family gives respect to the natural style of farming, using pomelo or orange peel as a natural pesticide to avoid the bugs that can bite the leaves. The whole leaves are lightly twisted and fully oxidized.
