Bug Bitten, GABA-processed, and aged—this gem of an oolong was born from an experiment by Mr. Chen while crafting his version of Taiwan Beauty.
In November 2024, our tea buyer Chih Hui landed in Taipei and made her way—straight to Pinglin 坪林 to visit Mrs. and Mr. Chen. She sat down with them to taste his teas side-by-side, of course, ordered a bowl of his famous Tea Seed Oil 苦茶油 noodles. She left with an armful of Honey Jia Long King’s Grade from various years.
In early 2025, we hosted side-by-side tastings of these vintages, and the experience was so fun and delightful that we’re excited to give you the chance to do the same! Be sure to engage all your senses—notice the differences in the dry leaf, aroma, color, and how each tea unfurls, revealing its unique body and flavor profile with every steep.
Each year reveals its own distinct character:
— 2019 is chocolatey, roasted, and richly fruity.
— 2020 is well-rounded and sweet, with robust notes of prune.
— 2022 is mellow, balanced, and gently sweet.
— 2023 offers a honey glaze with a subtle bite, it has forward bring sweet aroma —youthful vibe now, and exciting to watch evolve. We're hopeful it will mature into another standout vintage, much like the beloved 2018 harvest.
Whether you’re new to Honey Jia Long or a longtime fan, we hope this vertical tasting brings you as much joy as it did us.
