Producer
Kanchanjangha Tea Estate and Research Centre (KTERC), Nepal’s first certified organic tea garden, was founded in 1984 by Deepak Prakash Baskota with a mission to alleviate poverty in his community. Today, it remains a model social enterprise, operating cooperatively and prioritizing people and the environment over profit.
Origin – A Himalayan Treasure
Sourced from the lush foothills of Mt. Kanchanjangha, Silver Yeti embodies the essence of Nepal’s high-mountain terroir. Nestled between Illam’s renowned tea fields and Darjeeling’s western border, this tea benefits from both traditions. Grown at 1,300–1,800 meters, it flourishes in the pristine Himalayan climate, yielding a delicately fragrant and uniquely complex flavor.
Production Details
Silver Tips tea is among the least processed teas, making it one of the purest. Handpicked from bushes under 50 years old, it stands apart from traditional Chinese and Indian varieties, offering a unique and fresh floral brew.
Only the delicate unopened buds are chosen, and no leaves are included. These buds are then air-dried, allowing their moisture to slowly evaporate. As they dry, lustrous silver tips emerge, surrounded by tiny trichomes (hairs) that protect the young leaves. This gives Silver Needle tea its signature soft, silvery appearance and distinct flavor, with more trichomes than other teas since the buds are still in their early development.
Who Will Love This Tea?
Historically, royalties were the primary recipients of silver needles in China. Today, tea producers worldwide craft their own variations of this distinctive loose-leaf white tea, driven by its growing popularity, rarity, and unique flavor profile. This tea is perfect for anyone who appreciates delicate yet complex white teas, especially those who enjoy silver needles or silver tips.
