Baochong is known as the signature tea of Taiwan, carrying the fragrance of tropical flowers and fruit native to the island. With low level oxidation, this tea is barely considered an oolong, still retaining qualities of an exceptional green tea. The bright, fresh green leaves offer a light flavor profile with a honey suckle finish, and the heavenly bouquet aroma characteristic of a quality Taiwanese oolong. A tea that can be enjoyed on an everyday basis.
Our Baochong farmer, Mr. Lee entered himself in the first ever Tea Producers Competition in 2007. Since all the tea masters were given the same raw leaves, this was a contest of pure processing skill. Mr. Lee beat out over a thousand competitors to win Silver, and for someone just over 50 years old at the time, this was quite an honor. Winning competitions for one's tea in Taiwan ensures a good auction price for that lot of tea, but winning for one's production skills ensures prestige for the entire farm. In subsequent years, he would win second or third place each year. This year we are proud to be able to share a little bit of his precious third place winner!
Tasting Profile: A rich and dark green vegetal body right up front. Hidden fragrant floral notes open up with the third steep, a welcomed yet unusual sequence, with the aroma most commonly found in the earlier steepings and the body following. An option for the Baochong lover who desires a more complex flavor profile and additional steepings.

- 5g or 1.5Tbsp | 8oz. @ 190˚F | 1 minute
