Osmanthus Golden Oolong

Golden Oolong is a blend of Tieguanyin and Yellow Gold. Both are intensely aromatic, but one has notes of sweet licorice, and the other is honeysuckle-like. Custom made at the farm to get the blend just right, we tested out many batches of both spring crops to come up with the 'golden' ratio of the two revered oolongs. Perfect for cold steeping as well as hot brewing, this is one of the only oolongs that can claim both! A great affordable gift to introduce your friends and family to whole leaf tea drinking.

Osmanthus flowers are added for a lush floral aroma. The golden yellow flowers that blossom in autumn impart a smooth and lightly sweet, clean flavor. The flower is a cooling Chinese herb used for reducing inflammation.

Osmanthus's Harvest and Processing 

Osmanthus flowers (Gui Hua 桂花) bloom in autumn near Mid-Autumn Festival. The small, delicate flowers grow in bunches together on the branches of the osmanthus trees, emitting a fragrance to all who pass by. Many Chinese foods/beverages such as soups and desserts regularly incorporate osmanthus flowers. Osmanthus is also enjoyed as an herbal tea alone or in blends like this Osmanthus Golden Oolong.

The window of time for harvesting osmanthus flowers is short, as the flowers will fall to the ground within a few days of them opening. Osmanthus is typically harvested by setting a large cloth underneath the trees and shaking the trees so the flowers fall onto the cloth.

Steeping Guidelines:

• 6g or 1.25Tbsp | 6oz. | 205˚F | 1 min.
• May be re-steeped multiple times.
• Use a porcelain or yixing teapot.
• Drain completely and serve.
