Darjeeling 1st Flush uses only the smallest, freshest buds and leaves, harvested at the start of spring, right after the winter dormancy. The 1st Flush is an anomaly in the black tea category being only partially oxidized, making it more similar to a green or oolong. By not fully oxidizing this tea reveals all of its intense floral aroma. This tea comes to us from the Namring Tea Estate in Darjeeling, India (Upper Division), which sits at an altitude of 1700 meters.
The Namring Estate was established in 1855 by the British, who planted a unique combination of Chinese, Clonal, and Assam tea plants. The combination gives the Namring Upper Estate an exotic floral aroma and distinct Darjeeling muscatel flavor.
The flavor is crisp , clean, with champagne notes. Ideally drunk on its own. Pairs well with light cheese, high tea style sandwiches, and fruit.
