History:
Oolongs have grown in the high mountains of Anxi for a long time as the indigenous She people migrated up Fujian, bringing their seeds of tea with them. Tikuanyin bushes were discovered in the 1700s by a scholar who found them wild, and subsequently, a whole sub-varietal was created, which the emperor at the time named the ‘Iron Bodhissattva’ or Tie Guan Yin(China spelling).  Today, Tikuanyin is one of the most highly prized and revered oolongs in the world.

Character:
Tikuanyin leaves are generally fleshier, thicker than most oolongs, with a distinct fragrance and body called ‘yun’, a sort of musical note like quality that describes the ethereal quality of the taste of Tikuanyin.
