Tea Tours at the Teabar

Appreciating artisanal teas is a lot like appreciating great wines.  Like wine, tea has the complexity, artisan-ship, and vintage variations that are interesting year in and year out.  Unlike wine, tea is has a five thousand year history and hundreds of varietals and appellations to enjoy.  All tea comes from the same plant, the differences come from variances in location, tradition and production techniques. Science has begun to recognize that tea is healthy for you - rich in anti-oxidants and vitamins - a wonderful benefit, but the pleasure of drinking great, whole-leaf teas, prepared properly, brings the daily experience of tea to a whole new level.

As there are no teas grown in the U.S., and touring remote tea mountains in Asia are nearly impossible, how can one develop a palate for tea, become educated and discerning consumers, without traveling all around Asia?

Teance features a unique, round teabar for professionally guided tasting tours. Carrying only farm direct, original source, high elevation grown single estate teas, each tea batch is seasonal unless it was meant to be aged.  Consumers can first experience an overview flight, such as an educational comparative of white, green, oolong, red and black teas. Rare aged pu-erhs and competition-winning oolongs are just some of the premium teas from key producing nations - China, Taiwan, Japan, India and Sri Lanka. Consumers can return for in-depth tasting flights of focused categories:  compare oolongs from Taiwan vs. China, for example. There are extensive ways to keep learning and improving one's palate, developing knowledge and appreciation not present even in many of the culinary tastemakers in the country.

This is a unique experience not found anywhere in the U.S.  Teance welcomes groups to book our teabar for tastings and special events. These are guided, focused tastings intended for education and experience. The teabar tender will guide one through appreciating taste and aroma differences, introduce farms and locales the teas are harvested from, orientate with a bit of tea history, and offer some guidance on proper steeping methods.  Intended to be rich and enlivening, the tasting tour  will satisfy both the senses and engaging to one's knowledge and appreciation.
