Good to Know:
Called 'Te' or '˜Tay' by the ancient Chinese, and today, tea is called 'Cha' in Chinese. As tea spread through the Silk Road to Central Asia, the Persians, Arabs, and Russians adapted a lifestyle of tea and incorporated it into their own culture. The word 'Cha' became 'Cha-I' in the Persian language, and 'Chai' in India. Tea traveled to Europe in the 1600s and the Europeans quickly became enamoured with it. Today, tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world, next to water.
Tea is available in a multitude of different grades which vary by country and type of tea. All premium grades of greens and oolongs, with the exception of some Korean and Japanese teas should be offered in whole leaf form. Most Indian teas available in cut leaf form, but must be hand-plucked to be considered premium.
