Basics:
Tea is a beverage
produced from a combination of water and tea leaves from the plant,
Camellia Sinensis. These plants produce their finest teas in
mountainous and hilly regions where the soil drainage is good and kept
consistently moist by misty fog. Tea can also be grown in low, flat
areas, but these generally produce brisker, coarser brews good for only
teabags.
Although the
Camellia Sinensis is indigenous to China, tea plants grow in other
parts of Asia, Africa, South America, Indonesia, New Zealand, and
Australia. Most premium teas come from the mountainous regions of
China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, India, and Sri Lanka.
Teas are best
enjoyed in their original, whole leaf, unblended forms. Many blends
consist of teas from different countries, flavorings, and other
additives.
