June 19 Green Tea Tasting Comparative and Steeping Instructor: Winnie Yu Cost $18 p/person Taste a batch of Shin Cha from Uji, Japan, the freshest and very limited harvest of new green tea that becomes what is known as Sencha. Compare this to a fresh harvest Lu Shan Clouds and Mist for similar oceanic notes but without the grassiness of Japanese teas. Learn to steep these delicate greens properly using gaiwan or teapot to enjoy their most subtle character and healthy good taste.
June 26 Taiwanese Oolongs, tasting and steeping Instructor: Darius Moghaddam Cost $15 p/person Learn how to steep and enjoy what is considered the greatest oolongs in the world, the Taiwan oolongs, using Taiwan style tea service. Enjoy Baochong, Tung Ting, and High Mountain Dark Roast. As a bonus, taste a 18 year aged Tung Ting that was a marriage heirloom.
July 3 White Teas Instructor: Darius Moghaddam Cost $15 White teas are one of the most satisfying, soothing, and healthy categories of tea. Because of its minimal processing and unique nature, steeping this type of tea in its correct proportions require some training and skill. Come learn the best ways to steep and enjoy White Peony Longevity Brows and White Down, two of our favorite white teas.
July 10th Taiwan Beauty Instructor: Winnie Yu Cost: $18 Taste, learn to steep, and become educated on one of the most unique Oolongs in the world. Taiwan Beauty is a mystery because it is neither a true oolong nor black tea, and has taste characters completely different from both.
July 17 Lecture and Tasting: Anxi mountain oolongs Instructor: Winnie Yu Cost $18 Learn about the agriculture and processing of Monkey Picked Tikuanyin, Anxi Tikuanyin made in the traditional vs. new styles. Taste and compare these rich, complex oolongs which fetches some of the highest auction prices in the world.
July 24 Cooking with Matcha $18 p/person Enjoy a fun filled evening of treats, desserts, and appetizers all made with matcha, obtain recipes, and learn from the chefs who made and served them. Matcha is one of the healthiest ways to consume tea, and using it to cook has always been a favorite of Japanese and other international gourmet chefs.
July 31 Steeping Class Instructor: Darius Moghaddam $15 p/person Learn how to steep any tea using gaiwan, and even better, learn to drink green tea in a one. Ever wonder how it's possible to drink straight our of a gaiwan without breaking all the pieces? In China, one is often presented with a gaiwan full of tea leaves, and must learn the custom and methods of drinking directly from it to be reasonably respected!
Classes begin promptly at 7pm and runs until 8pm. Q&A until 8:30pm. All class attendees eligible for 10% discount of teas and merchandise purchased during the classes.
